This cold snap is breaking some records today. Caribou got down to a negative 28, breaking the old daily record of minus 20 back in 1968…this according to National Weather Service analysts. Other spots in our area, that got record cold temps, Van Buren at negative 47 and Big Black River in the North Maine Woods got down to a negative 42.
Big Black River, by the way, remains the holder of the state record low temperature of minus 50 just five years ago. And if you’re thinking these temps are normal this time in January, weather analysts say actually, THEY’RE NOT.
