Three County teams will be vying for Eastern Maine titles tomorrow in the Bangor area. The Caribou Vikings baseball team and both the baseball and softball teams from LCS/MSSSM will look to claim titles tomorrow evening. This is a familiar spot for the LCS/MSSM girls it is their second straight trip to the finals.
Kirby:”They have been focused on it since they lost in the Finals last year. At our entrance meeting this season we talked about being prepared to play in that Championship game and being prepared to play and they were all motivated for that and ready to go.”
The undefeated Eagles have shown that they are a power hitting team and that they love to swing the bats…. That could make for a high scoring Championship game
Kirby:”The experience they had last year in the playoffs. They had some tough games in both the quarters and semis won by a run or two. That experience helped them a lot this post season. They are confident at bat and know they are going to have one or two big innings. They don’t worry if they are down early because they know something will happen eventually.”
The LCS/MSSM baseball team has a first year coach in Eric McGough who played College and Professional baseball before moving to the County. He said he has received alot of support from the Administration and the players on the team who bought into his system
McGough:” Most of all these players have made my job easy. I am very fortunate to be the benefactor of a lot of great people in this organization.”
McGough says the team’s goal was to be the best they could be and go as deep into the playoffs as they could
McGough: There are a lot of things we can’t control, but the thing we could control was our work ethic, our attitude, the way we approach every game and every practice. It has been thrilling to watch the fruits of our labor because the boys invested in the program.”
The Caribou Vikings head into the title game on a roll. the teas has picked up two exciting wins over Foxcroft in the bottom of the 7th and over Winslow in extra innings.
Thibodeau:”They play until the game is over. I tell them the game isn’t over until it’s over play seven innings hard and they did both games and the outcome was in our favor.”
Thibodeau says the team is peaking at the right time and they have exceeded expectations.
Thidodeau:” Believe it or not the goal at the beginning of the year was to make the playoffs. That is what they did and they have gone above and beyond what they expected. Certainly what I expected after a rough start. They came on strong midway and they are doing very well right now.
