WILTON, Maine (AP) – Police say an accident last week in Wilton that took the life of a Lewiston woman and injured four was caused when a minivan crossed the centerline.
Police on Monday said a Chrysler Town and Country van driven by 79-year-old Richard Harvey crossed the centerline on U.S. Route 2 on Friday and collided head-on with an SUV driven by 61-year-old Claudette Hutchins.
Hutchins died en route to the hospital. Her two passengers, including a 16-year-old girl, were hospitalized.
Harvey and his passenger were also hospitalized.
Sgt. Chad Abbot tells the Kennebec Journal investigators are still trying to determine why the van crossed into the other lane. There was no word on charges.
