The University of Maine Presque Isle is looking for a new Men’s Basketball Coach. Jim Casciano has been hired as the new coach at Johnson and Wales in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Casciano:” It’s a bittersweet moment because of the players who are here, and the people and the relationships I developed while being here at UMPI.
Timing is what it is. I had no control over that. This opportunity presented itself and I think it is very good opportunity for not only myself but my wife.
We are excited about starting a new chapter and moving to Charlotte North Carolina.”
The Owls continued to improve under Casciano’s leadership. The team was ranked in the top fifteen in the USCAA Poll for several weeks over the last two years. Johnson and Wales Charlotte campus has been in existence for about 10 years and the Athletics Program at the school is still in it’s infancy
Casciano:”Athletics in Charlotte have been just three years and this is the first time they have hired a full time coach. I will be that first person so it’s still in its infancy stages. There is a lot of room for growth. It’s tremendous potential. It’s an exciting time because a lot of good things are happeing at the University not only in Athletics, but across the board.”
Casciano told the team that he would be leaving last evening and he said that was very difficult
Casciano:” That is the tough part of coaching because there is never a good time to move on. I want the best for them. I will do everything I can to help them and I can confident that UMPI will do the best they can to hire somebody to come here and keep the momentum going.”
