The County is still buzzing about Russell Currier making the US Olympic Biathlon team. Organizers are looking to have a fundraiser on Sunday to help send Currier’s parents to the Olympics. Bob Sprague Currier’s former High School Ski Coach says the event which will be held at Caribou High School from 4-6 and is a chance to celebrate a major accomplishment.
“It’s something we can do to help send his folks to Sochi so they can watch him compete in the Olympics. It’s awesome it’s wonderful and it’s just to show our appreciation. He is not just this little kid from Stockholm he is not just a graduate of Caribou High School he is a County guy he is a Maine guy.”
Sprague says the response from the people of the area has been unbelievable and this is a chance to meet Currier’s parents Chris and Debbie and to sign a card for the Olympian
” I think a lot of people are interested in saying to Chris and Debbie wonderful news we are so happy for you. We just want to do something for you to let Russell know how much we appreciate what he has done”
Sprague said the Curriers progression is a testament to the vision of Maine Winter Sports Center
” When he was a little kid he was skiing in Stockholm then he came here by the time he was a sophomore he had one won State Meet. He went onto win four more State Titles won a National Meet. He has become the most notable beneficiary fo what Owen Wells and Andy Shepard and Maine Winter Sports have all done for people of this area. It’s wonderful that he has worked this hard to get to this level just want people to have the opportunity to come and say congratulate Russell for us and cheer him one.”
