MACHIAS, Maine (AP) – Maine’s eastern tip is under a blizzard warning as a storm packing snow and strong winds moves off the coast.
Forecasters say Washington County is expected to be pounded by strong winds gusting to 60 mph and snowfall that could exceed a foot on Wednesday.
Gov. Paul LePage ordered state offices in Washington and Hancock counties closed.
The storm is clipping Down East Maine, so snowfall elsewhere will be negligible..
But wind will be a concern statewide, with gusts up to 50 mph statewide. Dustin Jordan from the National Weather Service in Caribou says this will lead to blowing snow and possible whiteout conditions.
