Some baseball and softball teams played season openers today. The Central Aroostook teams hosting Wisdom. CAHS Athletic Director Ryan Guerrette says the season is a short one and you have to try to get your games played

Guerrette:”We have got to try and get the games in. We have to have them all played by June 4th and playing a 16 game schedule we have to get out whenever we can now. Our fields are in pretty good shape they seem to be drier than I anticipated them to be.”

The season officially started 10 days ago and these games are some of the first games being played in the County. Guerrette says that there are only a limited number of days to play because of other School Activities

Guerrette:” We are really limited a lot of schools push a lot of stuff into the spring. The FFA State Convention, Academic Banquet things like that are always in the spring. There’s a lot of days you can’t play so any day you can get out and play we try to.”

Bill Casavant the longtime baseball assignor for the area says that it takes a cooperative effort among everyone to ensure the games are played whenever possible.

Casavant:” The Athletic Directors and myself we communicate now probably every day regarding games and make up games. We want to make sure we have the umpires to work their games. We try to do all we can the guys who work for me are great because they really go out of their way. They pass up a lot of things they could be doing to get the games in on time. We don’t want to be the reason teams get further back.”
