Sunshine and milder temperatures Monday were welcome conditions for Bangor Hydro crews who continue their efforts to restore service to many people who lost power due to last week’s ice storm. The numbers continue to dwindle with each passing hour and the goal is still to have every customer restored by the end of the day on Wednesday. The National Weather Service says the latest snowstorm Sunday night brought the snow total to 26.2 inches in Portland. That’s more than double the snowfall in a typical December. Central Maine Power says about 5,500 customers lost electricity in the latest storm. Bangor Hydro Electric, which is still dealing with hundreds of outages from last week’s ice storm, says about 936 homes and businesses are now in the dark. Meanwhile in New Brunswick there were 5000 customers without power by mid afternoon Monday. That’s up from the 3600 homes and business that were still without power from the ice storm. The utility hopes to have all customers back online by New Year’s Eve.
