It was a night worth waiting for, as Red Sox fans got an up close and personal look at the 2013 World Series Trophy.
“I’ve had a chance to see them play four times and this is a dream come true to see the trophy here,” said fan John Bouley.
Red Sox Fan Robbie Smith added, “You don’t get to see this very often. You see it a lot on the TV but to stand right beside it, it’s pretty neat.”
Hundreds of fans from one tip of the county to the other visited the Aroostook Centre Mall Wednesday night, as no distance could keep them from seeing the hardware in person.
“I decided we were going to come up one way or the other to come see the trophy,” said Smith who’s from the Hodgdon area.
“I don’t care if it was Bangor- I would’ve gone anyway,” said Bouley who’s from Fort Kent.
But this night wasn’t just for die-hard Red Sox fans as people from all over the world came out to see the trophy.
“I love to see it here because in France, you only see this on TV so yea I’m really happy,” said biathlete of Team France.
The trophy last made a visit to the County back in December of 2004 after the Red Sox won their first World Series since 1918. Let’s just say County fans hope it won’t take THAT long for the trophy to make its way back up to Northern Maine.. especially Smith.
“It’d be nice if they can bring it back up next year and go back-to-back- that’s be really sweet.”
